A Sunday morning at Ryerson is always rich in sacred musical traditions, styles and genres. Music ranges from Gregorian chant to Bach & Mozart to traditional hymns, freedom songs & contemporary selections.
The congregation is always inspired by the 4 manual Casavant organ, grand piano, the Ryerson Band, and chancel choir. Ryerson's Director of Music is Bryn Nixon who is well known in the Vancouver music scene as a choral conductor and organist.
Chancel Choir
Members include individuals from the congregation and music students from local universities and schools. They usually prepare two anthems each week and perform in a wide variety of musical styles and traditions. In fact, Ryerson has a large music library that pre-dates the formation of the United Church of Canada.
Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The choir also presents concerts throughout the year. Please check the Calendar for dates and times.
"The Band"
The Ryerson Band is for instrumentalists of all sorts. Rehearsals take place in the church on scheduled Saturday afternoons from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Band enjoys playing a wide variety of music and they support worship at Ryerson's major services and events.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about any of these ensembles please contact Bryn Nixon or 604-266-5377.
