Ryerson will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year.
Christians have been meeting at the corner of 45th and Yew since November 1911 when the congregation began as Kerrisdale Methodist Church. In 1925, with the formation of the United Church of Canada, it was renamed Ryerson United Church. Two years later, the cornerstone for the current church building was laid. The beautiful stained glass windows were designed by the company of famed designer William Morris. Two members of the congregation took time from their honeymoon in England to bring them home!
In 1949 the Memorial Centre was opened. This building houses our offices, meeting rooms and the children's Sunday activities. It is especially busy on weekday evenings as numerous community groups hold their meetings and activities.
At Ryerson we are currently ‘building to be smaller’: asking ourselves and the community how the use of our lands, buildings and other resources can best serve God’s mission for the congregation, the neighbourhoods we serve and the environment. Come be part of creating a new thing for a new time!
